After the recent weather we have been experiencing, although nothing like the floods seen else where, autumn colour has given in to winter structure regarding plant interest.
With the leaves now being collected for mulch bark colour and texture gives the garden a different feel. Add to this some winter flowering stalwarts like Camellia sasanqua varieties, Mahonia, Daphne bhoula, Sarcococca, Hamamelis etc and you get a feel for the design and backbone of the garden with the addition of perfumed flowers at almost every turn. Its always such a joy to walk around on a still, cold day and breathing in the mix of scents from the winter flowers.
