First Magnolia flower

First Magnolia flower 2010-03-08.

Here are the first and exclusive pictures of our seedling of Magnolia campbellii subsp.mollicomata in flower. Located deep within the garden above the Cock pit, its sheltered location helping it bloom early.

Between 2002 and 2008 the first flower opened on or around the 19th of January. Last year it opened on 25th February 37 days later due to the cold winter.

This year its 45 days late.

Spring is officially here and the garden is already a riot of colour with the Camellia putting on a stunning display.
