Six years running (that I’ve monitored) Magnolia campbellii subsp mollicomata (a seedling of) has first flowered in the garden between January 19th and 21st.
Last with the cold winter saw it flower 37 days later!
This year we still have no Magnolia in flower. Previous years has seen flowers as early as Christmas day!
The flower buds are almost as attractive as the flowers with a sense of real promise when the furry outer sheaths fall off.
The Camellia are starting to show good colour. All good signs for a great spring with plenty of magnolia in full bloom just as we open an march 1st.
Come and see for yourselves.
