The forecast may have been for rain but the reality was glorious sunshine and the extra bonus of Bugle Silver Band at Trewithen Gardens, Grampound Road.

Two hour-long lunchtime concerts on the picnic lawn close to the estate's new rose garden caused a considerable rush at the garden's tea rooms.

The band entertained visitors to musical medleys ranging from classical to pop and movie theme tunes.

The sound of the music drew visitors from across the estate which is famed throughout the world for its mature woodland, camellia and magnolia.

"It was a fantastic afternoon," explained tea-room manager, Mark Rogers. "It was lovely and sunny and lots of visitors sat outside on the lawn listening to the music."

Bugle Silver Band play regularly at the gardens throughout the summer. Led by their musical director, David Pope, the band spans a huge age range from its youngest player Gavin Rowe, aged 12, to its longest serving member, Geoff Pedlar who has played with the band for 65 years. The band will be performing at Trewithen again on Saturday, August 23rd between 12pm and 2pm
