I showed Alys Fowler around the garden concentrating on the Asiatic Magnolias including M.campbellii susp.mollicomata on the south lawn at its absolute peak as far as flowering is concerned. Clothed all the way to the ground in its light pink, huge cup and saucer shaped flowers. We spent most of yesterday dodging the wind and rain and I hope the programme will show the true beauty of scale these large specimens bring to the garden.
Easter weekend will be the best time to come to the garden and see them in their full glory. You may come away with ‘Magnolia neck’ which you may get from looking up into the stunning, lush canopy of the trees with the flowers standing out against the sky.
