Plant of the month for April is…

Close to impossible to choose! With such a wealth of plants to choose from April is always a difficult month to pick one plant. This year the spring has been exceptional. The lack of sunlight during the winter had slowed down the initiation of the flowers meaning a far more colourful spring than most years, and at spring time rather than late winter.

The plant I have decided on for this month is…. (drum roll please)

Rhododendron falconeri ssp.eximium

This lovely tree like Rhododendron has the most wonderful indumentum (cinnamon/rust coloured tiny hairs mostly on the underside of the leaves) with rose pink fading to translucent creamy yellow flower truss. Truly a spectacular plant that will stop you in your tracks when you see it.
