My plant of the month for June is…
Rosa ‘Dublin Bay’, a vigorous, upright climber with velvety, clear-red flowers. It repeat flowers very easily so regular dead-heading will ensure a season long display of these gorgeous flowers.
‘Rhapsody in Blue’, a lovely purple flower that fades to a light blue and ‘Gertrude Jekyll’, vibrant pink with the most deliciously sweet scent, Either would be worthy winners for their colour alone.
The rest of the Rose garden is coming on in leaps and bounds with vibrant colour and a heady scent filling the garden.
The first 6 plants have now made the short list for “Plant personality of the year 2012”. They are Magnolia campbellii subsp. mollicomata (our early flowering seedling tree), Rhododendron macabeanum, Stachyurus chinensis ‘Magpie’, Rubus spectabilis ‘Olympic Double’, Rhododendron sinonuttalii and Rosa ‘Dublin Bay’
I will be posting the short list on our facebook page in early December and will open the competition up to a public vote for the first time this year. Keep checking back for more info.
