Plant of the month March 2011.

I have chosen the underrated and under used BUT excellent Stachyurus chinensis ‘Magpie’.

Introduced by Ernest Wilson, from china, in 1908. It has gorgeous 10-12cm racemes of soft yellow flowers on naked stems followed by grey green leaves with a white margin. A graceful, well behaved, hardy shrub to grace anyone’s garden.
