Plant of the Month for March.
How to choose a plant of the month for March is close to impossible. From Camellia to early Rhododendron and of course Magnolia. What a dilemma.
This task, luckily, is made easy by the impact of one plant on the garden. Half way down the south lawn stands a champion tree to surpass any. Magnolia campbellii subsp.mollicomata. Genuis placing of this tree in 1928 by george johnstone when it was only an 18” seedling has meant generations of garden visitors have marvelled at the sure quantity, quality and size of its bright pink “Cup and saucer” like flowers.
A worthy winner of plant of the month.
