RHS Rosemoor, in Devon, was the host for this years main Rhododendron competition with the South West group’s show alongside.
Last year I entered, slightly blind, and came away with a haul of prizes including the McClaren challenge trophy for species rhododendron.
This year with more preparation, better efficiency towards picking and transporting I entered double the classes from last year!
A 3am start on the Saturday left us plenty of time for staging
After a few discrepancies over the naming of a couple of species I had entered 27 classes (some with two entries).
The results were amazing, 10 firsts, 7 seconds, 5 thirds and 7 others plus the “Williams Challenge Trophy” presented by the south west group for the ‘best in show’ camellia
It couldn’t have gone better. Congratulations to John Anderson and his team from Exbury, they won even more than us, Jaimie from Caerhays and by no means least Mrs Pat Bucknell who can easily compete against the large gardens with her quality of entries
