Following on from the Hydrangeas the Roses are thinking its early summer and are growing away quite merrily.

We have spring pruned them to an outward facing bud and have applied a slow release multi-purpose fertilizer. Over which we layered on a thick organic mulch of our own mixture. This comprises two parts composted wood chip to one part each of well rotted manure and our own garden compost. This is the first year we have used this method for various reasons. These include, up until recently, we didn’t have our own compost heap and we have used spent mushroom compost for the last few tears.

We rectified the lack of a compost heap and now produce enough good quality garden compost to use throughout the garden.
