The garden in September this year has a mixed feel of autumn and spring. Several “Late flowering” Rhododendron, such as ‘Polar Bear’ and ‘Leonore’, are still in flower with some spring flowering plants having a second flush. These include Rhododendron ‘Trewithen purple’, Rhododendron ‘Yellow Hammer’ and Magnolia ‘Star wars’.
Add summer flowering hydrangeas, Crocosmia, Canna, Hedychium (ginger lilies) and the roses. Even without taking in to account the autumn foliage and fruit we have plants showing colour throughout the garden. Plants like Camellia ‘Winter’s Snowman’ along with the Acers and not to mention the Hydrangeas, which are loving the summer mix of sunshine and showers, all helping to fill the garden with colour at every turn.
