On Tuesday of this week something eerie was discovered in the garden. A Clethra barbinervis, a wonderful summer flowering species with long fragrant racemes originating in Japan, was attacked!
The lower branches, some over an inch thick, were broken; the bark chewed off with bite marks on the stem. The main trunk had what can only be described as claw marks on it up to a height of 5 foot (over a metre in new money).
Was this the beast of Bodmin on a garden visit or can Trewithen now lay claim to its own “Beast of Trewithen”?
I will keep you posted with any sightings!!!
