Around the time of the RHS Chelsea flower show it is advisable to perform the “Chelsea Chop” on your Sedum plants in your garden. We were a little bit late this year but then spring has been all over the place.
The idea behind the “Chop” is to produce a more compact plant, one which is less prone to collapsing under the weight of the flowers in late summer.
We cut back about a third of the growth on all our sedum. There is also the added benefit that the flowers will be a little later than usual. The plant on the right has had the “Chop”
It looks a bit harsh for a week or so then the plants recover and go on to become vigorous bushy plants.
