Third place and the bronze award go to:-
Camellia saluenensis ‘Trewithen Red’
This is a dark form of C.saluenensis selected by George Johnstone from wild collected seed introduced by George Forrest in 1918.
C.saluenensis in the wild is light pink our selection is dark pink almost red. When we took it to RHS Wisley for the early camellia show this year it won first prize the species class and got praise from the President of the RHS Camellia, Rhododendron and Magnolia group quoting “It’s a myth and a legend of a plant…”
