A new post has been created to oversee the gardens' two retail outlets.
Marilyn Lawrence from St Ewe, near Mevagissey, began her job as Retail Manager for Trewithen Garden last week. From now on she will organise and order stock for the plant shop – both home-propagated plants from the Trewithen Nursery, which will now be a separate business providing the wholesale market, and plants bought from other suppliers.
Marilyn previously worked in plant sales at The Lost Gardens of Heligan in St Austell. She has always loved visiting Cornwall and its celebrated gardens and moved to the county from the Cotswolds five years ago where she had owned her own shop for 23 years.
Other changes at the garden include a new entrance, which guides people into the garden immediately from the car park and a new exit, which leads people from the rose garden past the plant shop and cafe back into the car park.
Cafe managers, Mark and Sonya Rogers, have extended their menu to include a number of outstanding local products including the award winning Cornish Orchards Apple Juice and St Austell Brewery's highly acclaimed Admiral's Ale that recently added the titles Best Bottled Beer in the World 2008 and Supreme Champion of the International Beer Awards to its string of credits.
Gifts newly available in their shop are also mostly locally produced including chocolates, sweets, jams and honey, wooden ornaments carved in Probus and glassware produced in Poldhu on the Lizard.
Marilyn said: "I was delighted to be offered the job of Trewithen's Retail Manager – especially as it is a newly created position, which gives me the perfect opportunity to develop and nurture the role. And on top of the excitement of having a new job I get the added pleasure of the "office" being one of the finest gardens in the Westcountry."
