The Garden Team

Gary Long
Head Gardener

Neil Trebilcock
Gardener

David Clough
A volunteer since 2012, David enjoys working in the tranquil surroundings of the gardens at Trewithen. His love of spring flowers is rewarded when the magnolias and camellias come into bud and flower – a truly magical sight.

Alison George
A relative newcomer to the volunteer team, Alison has proven to be a natural. She is now turning her passion into a recognised qualification – studying for the Royal Horticultural Society Principles of Horticulture level 2.

Ana Robson
Ana has been working at Trewithen since 2011 and fills her days working through a range of jobs including sweeping leaves, mulching and painting. She particularly enjoys maintaining the trees and the friendly banter with Gary and the rest of the team.

Volunteers

Trewithen’s volunteer programme is a symbiotic relationship – the time and effort given by volunteers is crucial to the maintenance of the garden and the experience they gain is often a springboard to rewarding careers.

In the past volunteers have been offered jobs at other Cornish gardens, students have gone on to further their training at university and even at Kew Gardens and some have gone on to start their own horticulture businesses.

Voluntary Placements

Working alongside Head Gardener Gary Long and his team, don’t miss the unique opportunity to gain important practical experience and learn horticultural techniques amongst one of Cornwall’s great historic gardens.

Placements are adaptable and can cater for a range of requirements – from students in need of experience to those who fancy a career change or even simply just to be out in the fresh air.
